Hart County Civil War Days - Munfordville Past, Present, and Future

Each second weekend of September, Munfordville hosts the Hart County Civil War Days, a three-day festival with period music, costumes, and reenactment soldiers from both the North and the South.

Hart County Civil War Days Details

The grounds of the Hart County Courthouse are filled with various food vendors, games and activities, and booths with everything from Civil War items to hand-made arts and crafts. The festival also has live, period music, historical tours, artifacts, living history encampments, and historical memorabilia on display. Saturday and Sunday are highlighted with the reenactments of the Battle of Munfordville.

The Hart County Civil War Days is truly a grand spectacle of a by-gone era that is enjoyed by young and old alike.

Pay by Mail-in. Make check payable to “Hart Co Historical Society.”

Registration is $10, $20 after pre-registration and at the door. Ages 6 and under are free.

NOTE: The fees help delay some of the costs for FREE straw, wood for fires, port-a-johns, The Ball on Saturday evening, music, Saturday and Sunday battles, PLUS the bounties.

All companies pre-registering 10 rifles or more will receive $50.

The first 6 cannons to pre-register will receive $150.

Friday, September 7th, 2018

8:00 am – 6:00 pm – Vendor sign in at booth on East South Street, in front of Justice Center. Vendors start to set-up on/around courthouse lawn. Reenactor registration and check in at information booth (near sidewalk in front of fountain on courthouse lawn and the Woodson House). Reenactors will begin setting up camp at the Woodson house and George T. Wood house.

8:30 am – 2:30 pm – School Day (presenters such as President Abe Lincoln and General Buckner along with many Others will provide educational sessions for students with tours through significant landmarks in the city of Munfordville).

5:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Music under the tent (East Union Street) by the Lee Miller Band. Jadaway Farms Fried Pie and Ice Cream Social
On Courthouse front lawn. = fee $5 for fried pie with ice cream, $3 for fried pie only, $2 for cup of ice cream only.

6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Ham Dinner presented by the Hart County Rescue Squad at the Old Munford Inn (108 S. Washington Street).
Fee $10.00 plate.

Saturday, September 8th, 2018

6:00 am – 10:00 am – ALL YOU CAN EAT pancake breakfast presented by the Lion’s Club, at Munfordville Elementary School (505 W. Union Street).
Fee $5.00 per person.

7:00 am – 12 (noon) – Reenactor registration and check in at information booth (near sidewalk in front of fountain on courthouse lawn and at the Woodson House near the battlefield.

8:00 am – 4:00 pm – Historical Museum and Welcome center will Open for tours and information.

9:00 am – Flag Raising Ceremony at Courthouse Lawn. Pictures with Abe Lincoln under tent (East Union Street).

9:00 am – 3:00 pm – Events at Riverpointe Church (203 Main St.)

  • Pottery Demonstration

9:00 am – 4:00 pm – Woodson house (near battlefield) open.

10:00 am – Parade. (Route will start at old fairgrounds on Whitman Rd.).

11:00 am – Performance by Hart County School Band at Courthouse front steps.

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm – Lee Miller Band concert under the tent (East Union Street).

2:00 pm – Battle of Munfordville reenactment at Fort Craig behind Woodson House.

4:00 pm – 7:00 pm – Bluegrass music by Joe Larson (courthouse lawn).

7:00 pm – 10:00 pm – Blue/Grey Ball with the 52nd Regimental String Band under tent (Union Street).

Sunday, September 9th, 2018

10:00 am – Community period church service at Munfordville Presbyterian Church (122 W. Union Street) with Acoustic music by the Lee Miller Band.

10:00 am – Memorial service for fallen soldiers at the Col. Robert A. Smith Monument.

1:30 pm – Battle of Munfordville Reenactment at Fort Craig Behind Woodson House.

3:00 pm – Closing ceremony (by DAV) at flag pole on courthouse lawn.
